Linux & Server Operations

Linux Infrastructure & Server Management for Small Businesses

From single-VPS deployments to multi-host Proxmox clusters with ZFS storage and automated off-site backups — Tuxxin builds the Linux backbone your business runs on.

A reliable Linux server is the foundation of every web app, e-commerce store, and SaaS product. Tuxxin builds and operates production Linux infrastructure for small and medium businesses across the United States. We use Debian or Ubuntu LTS for the base OS, Proxmox VE for virtualization, and a battle-tested toolchain (systemd, nftables, fail2ban, ZFS, Restic, Prometheus) — no proprietary surprises, no vendor lock-in, no managed-cloud markup.

Linux Infrastructure Services

New server provisioning

Bare-metal or VPS, hardened from first boot. SSH key-only auth, nftables firewall, automatic security updates, fail2ban, Wireguard for ops access. Production-ready in hours, not days.

Proxmox virtualization

Multi-host clusters with ZFS replication, live migration, automated backup snapshots, and GUI access for your team. Run dozens of LXC containers and KVM VMs on consumer hardware reliably.

Backups & disaster recovery

Restic-encrypted incremental backups to local + off-site (B2, Wasabi, your own S3). Daily integrity checks, monthly restore drills, documented RTO/RPO. We do not let backups silently rot.

Monitoring & alerts

Prometheus + Grafana dashboards for CPU, memory, disk, network, and per-app metrics. Alerts to Slack/email/Telegram only when something actually broke — no noise.

Hardening & audits

CIS-aligned hardening, regular security audits, log shipping, intrusion detection. We patch CVEs the day they land, not on someone else schedule.

Performance tuning

MariaDB/PostgreSQL tuning, kernel sysctl tuning, NGINX/Apache config audits, slow-query analysis. Most clients see 2-5x throughput on the same hardware after tuning.

Our Linux Stack

Operating systems

Debian 12, Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 LTS. We avoid Red Hat clones for the licensing uncertainty post-RHEL changes.

Virtualization

Proxmox VE 8.x — open-source, no per-socket licensing, web UI, native ZFS, LXC + KVM in one platform.

Storage

ZFS for pooled storage with snapshots, send/receive replication, native compression. Optional Ceph for true HA clusters.

Networking

nftables firewall, Wireguard for site-to-site and ops access, Cloudflare Tunnels for zero-port-forward inbound traffic.

Backup

Restic + rclone to multi-cloud destinations, with periodic restore-test scripts so you find out a backup is broken from us, not from a disaster.

Observability

Prometheus + Grafana, Loki for logs, Alertmanager for routing. Hosted on the same Proxmox cluster — no SaaS subscription required.

Our Delivery Process

1

Discovery

A 30-minute call to scope your workload, growth plans, and constraints. We come back with a written architecture proposal and price.

2

Build

Infrastructure stood up in a sandbox, validated against your requirements, then promoted to production with documented runbooks.

3

Cutover

Migration plan with rollback. Zero-downtime moves where the workload allows; scheduled maintenance windows where it does not.

4

Operate

Monthly retainer covers monitoring, security patches, backup verification, and a quarterly capacity-planning review.

Linux Infrastructure Is Right For You If

Tuxxin works best with the following kinds of teams and projects.

  • You are running PHP, Node, Python, or Ruby apps and want predictable performance without AWS sticker shock.
  • You want self-hosted infrastructure (data sovereignty, audit-able, no surprise bills) but lack a full-time sysadmin.
  • You currently have a single-VPS setup and the business is starting to outgrow it.
  • You inherited a Linux server with no documentation and need someone to audit, harden, and document it.
  • You want Proxmox-based virtualization for a small office or homelab-grade production environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

We can, but we usually steer SMB clients toward dedicated hardware or VPS providers (Hetzner, OVH, Vultr) where the per-month cost is 3-10x lower for the same workload. For specific compliance or data-residency reasons we will work in any cloud — but we will tell you honestly when it is overkill.

Yes. We start with a free audit — root access provided over Wireguard or temporary SSH key — and produce a written report covering security, backup state, performance, and risks. Most takeovers begin with a hardening pass, then ongoing operations.

A one-shot security audit on a single server runs about $400-$800 depending on the complexity. Ongoing managed Linux infrastructure starts at $500/month for a single host with backups, monitoring, and patch management.

For ongoing-managed clients, yes — alerting is configured 24/7 with response targets in the SLA. For project-only work we operate business hours (9-6 ET) with best-effort weekend coverage.
