We've been busy behind the scenes at Tuxxin, and we're stoked to announce some seriously cool upgrades to WorldIP.io. Over the past weeks, we've shipped a batch of improvements designed to give you deeper insights, clearer data, and a snappier experience. Think of it as your favorite IP toolkit getting a serious power-up. Here’s the rundown of what’s new:
What's Living on That IP? Now You'll Know.
Ever wondered what else is chilling on that IP address you're looking up? Our IP pages have always given you the lowdown on an address's network, location, and routing. Now, we're pulling back the curtain even further to show you exactly what's hosted there – the domains pointing their A or AAAA records right at that IP.
Whether it's a bustling shared-hosting server with hundreds of sites or a dedicated box quietly running one, you'll see it. We've made this happen thanks to a new data partnership with GRIP (General Research IP), an internet-measurement project whose forward-DNS data perfectly complements our own. Look for the new "Hosted domains" section on any IP page; it’s a game-changer for understanding IP usage.
Sniff Out Sneaky Residential Proxies
Our VPN & proxy check has been a solid way to identify VPNs, datacenters, and hosting IPs – just like streaming services and anti-fraud systems do. But let's be real, the residential proxy has always been the sly one. These are real home or mobile connections, but they're secretly relaying other people's traffic, making them notoriously hard to spot because they look "normal."
Well, not anymore! We're now flagging these too, tapping into GRIP's residential-proxy intelligence. So, if an ordinary-looking home IP is actually part of a proxy network, you'll see a clear "Residential proxy" tag right on its IP page. No more waving through suspicious connections as ordinary traffic – now you'll know the score.
Domain Pages: A Crystal-Clear DNS Timeline
Trying to decipher a domain's history used to feel like reading hieroglyphics. Our domain pages listed every IP a domain ever resolved to, but old records looked just as current as new ones, making it tough to see what was actually happening now. We've fixed that, making domain history much easier to read:
- Current vs. Historical: Forward A/AAAA records from the most recent resolution are now clearly tagged current. Older, superseded addresses are dimmed and labeled historical with the date they were last seen. No more confusion about stale data!
- Active PTRs: Reverse (PTR) records – IPs whose reverse DNS points back at the domain – are now explicitly marked active. If we're tracking it, it's live, simple as that.
- Grouped for Clarity: Everything currently in play, from live forward records to active PTRs, is grouped right at the top. The historical records are neatly tucked below, so you always see what's true now, then the past beneath it.
Faster Pages, Everywhere You Are
Who likes staring at a loading spinner? Nobody! We've moved page delivery onto a global edge cache. This means the most popular pages – IP, range, ASN, and organization pages – are now served from a nearby edge location instead of making a full round-trip to our origin every single time. Popular lookups load near-instantly, and the whole system runs smoother, keeping live lookups lightning-fast too.
Dive Deeper with Richer Network Context
We didn't just stop at individual IPs and domains; we've also deepened the data on the pages around those lookups:
- Smarter Organizations & ASNs: Our ASN and organization pages now integrate data from PeeringDB and Wikidata. This means you'll see where a network peers, which internet exchanges it uses, plus the operator's headquarters, founding date, and other corporate details. That bare AS number now tells a much more complete story.
- Instant Reputation Checks: IP pages now feature a reputation signal, pulling from multiple public threat and blocklist feeds. You can tell at a glance whether an address has a shady past on abuse or spam lists.
- Better Coverage, Fewer Unknowns: We've backfilled gaps in ASN and country data from additional public sources, so you'll encounter far fewer "unknown" results. More answers, less head-scratching – just how we like it.
We're always working to make WorldIP.io the most valuable tool in your arsenal, and trust us, more is on the way. Go ahead, explore the full toolbox under Tools, or jump straight to any IP, domain, or ASN to see all these updates in action!
